MAKE A WISH!

HERE IS OUR CHRISTMAS WISH TREE.
Let’s “decorate” it with all our wishes. Let’s hope some of them come true!!!

This tree will be decorated with all your wishes, which will appear below it.
For that, write down your wish (individually or in group), ask your english teacher to have a look at it (if necessary) and then ask her to give it to the teachers responsible for the " English Corner".

Here are some of our students' wishes.

SARAMAGO, NAMORA AND WOLF, 11F

I wanted to be Santa Claus

To land on rooftops,
Next to people’s aerials.

With my bag
I would go down long chimneys
Loaded with toys and clothes,
tiptoeing.

In each house
I would change
a dream for a gift.
Which job could be prettier
 than make people happy.

Love is in the air!

Today we have asked our students to define love.
Here you can find some of their suggestions:

"Love is the most beautiful feeling in the world.
Love should exist in the life of everbody.
Without love there's no life.
In love there are no limits, everything counts".
Vera and Carolina

"There isn't a unique definition for love.
Love is something we can't see, however it can be immensely felt."
João, Pedro and Patrícia

"Love isn't anything that we can experience in a lab
by finding out the mysterious formula."
 Íris and Catarina

" Love is an expression of strong affection.
As time goes by, we keep all the memories of the times we had together,
and whatever may happen we will still be FRIENDS FOR EVER.
We all need friends to support us, they are really special!"
Sofia, Ana, Luís and Rui.

"Love is a state of mind.
It makes you feel the luckiest one on Earth.
But when it is not reciprocal, you feel as if you were in hell.
But you know what? It's worth loving ..."
Marcelo, Adriano, Diogo and Rui

"Love is something ...
 for someone special.
When you are in love,
your heart beats faster,
and your days are better
and your life is meaningful."
Pedro and Sara

"Do you remember that place between sleeping and being awake?
That place where you can still remember dreaming?
That is where I'll be waiting,
That is where I'll always love you".
Joana, Paulo, Ricardo and José

"How can we describe such a personal thing?
Love's definition varies from person to person:
An indescribable deep feeling of happiness and concern about someone else" ...
Or
as Camões wrote: "Love is a fire that burns without being seen".
Filipe and Ana Sofia
" Bros befores hoes" ( Bro code)
Mário, Pedro, Francisco

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is a festival that cherishes love and romance. The festival falls on February 14 every year and is celebrated in several countries across the world including US, UK, Canada, Japan, France, China and India. Though the festival commemorates the martyrdom of a Christian saint called St Valentine, the festival as it is celebrated today has little religious significance. In present times, Valentine's Day has assumed a secular and global flavor and is celebrated by people of all ages and races.

Another noticeable factor in Valentine's Day celebration of present times is that the festival celebrates love in all its forms and is not just restricted to romantic love. People therefore exchange Valentine's Day greetings with their parents, teachers, siblings, friends, sweethearts or anyone special or close to them. The commonest way of expressing love on Valentine's Day is through exchanging cards, flowers and chocolates.

Valentine's Day History and Legends
The romantic festival of Valentine's Day is said to have originated in pagan times in Rome when people celebrated annual fertility festival called Feast of Lupercalia in mid-February. A unique custom of the festival was the mating of young boys and girls for a year through a lottery system. Quite often the couple would fall in love and marry.

Christmas is coming...

Christmas is both a sacred religious holiday and a worldwide cultural and commercial phenomenon. For two millennia, people around the world have been observing it with traditions and practices that are both religious and secular in nature. Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.
Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a holiday in the United States and Canada; it is closely related to European harvest festivals. In the United States, Thanksgiving lasts four days now because most people also get the Friday off. The holiday is celebrated with family and friends, and a huge dinner is served in the early afternoon or evening. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner is a roasted turkey served with stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, green beans and various pies for dessert.
In Canada, the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1710. For about 200 years, it was held for example when a royal child was born or when a battle was won. It became an annual holiday in 1931 and is now celebrated on the second Monday of October.
